In November 2011, the UNESCO appointed the Viennese coffee house culture which consists of about 800 traditional coffee houses as an immaterial cultural heritage:

This is wonderful - the last time I went to Vienna, I fell in love with the ancient buildings, the traditional interior and the high-quality coffee/cakes offered by the traditional coffee houses. Public figures like Mozart, Sigmund Freud, Thomas Bernhard, Gustav Klimt, Arthur Schnitzler and Leo Trotzki had their inspirations and discussions here. The culture of dignified intellectualism still prevails, so on your next trip to Vienna, make sure to stop by the coffee houses and have a taste of this venerable tradition.
