New Discovery - Café Kante in Frankfurt (Germany)

View from the back of the cafe
Last weekend I went to Frankfurt to visit my younger brother Jan. While Frankfurt is usually known for its skyscrapers, bankers and quite flourishing drug scene, I was not aware that there is also a very relaxed and charming side to the city.

Jan took me to a tiny cafe called Cafe Kante, which I immediately fell in love with. From the outside it looks just like another small boutique - so much in fact, that you might just pass by it. ...Which would be a shame because inside you will find an incredibly cozy atmosphere with great coffee and simple yet tasty food.

The best part about this place, however, is that it makes you feel like you just stepped into the 1920's. The crowd is composed of people who look like they just started writing a bestseller or like to philosophize about the world on a lazy Sunday morning. To make the journey into the past complete, the owners decorated the cashier's area with vintage coffee packages, an old scale and sweets that are stored in antique glass containers.

The cashier's area.
The entrance area - and Jan.
In a nutshell: Cafe Kante is just the type of charming and shabby cafe that I love and that is definitely worth a visit on your next trip to Frankfurt.

New Discovery: Himmel und Erde - Cafe and Floristik in Hamburg (Germany)

The other day my friend and I decided to go to places in our own hometown that we have never been to before. So, this morning we went to "Himmel und Erde", a cute little cafe that is also a flower shop (and actually not far at all from where I live. Sometimes, I thought when I opened the door, the nicest places are just right around the corner).

The combination of beautiful flowers, classical piano music, freshly made breakfast and coffee makes it a really nice, peaceful and inspiring cafe. The lady who served us made everything with love and great focus to detail and was in a really chirpy mood (maybe that was also because of the very rare occurrence of a sunny day in Hamburg).

The only strange encounter was a lady who was dressed all black (including a long coat) and peered into the cafe from the outside, then went into the flower shop and stared at us again... but she never actually came inside the cafe. We figured that she must have been some sort of matrix agent, trying to deliver an important message to my friend but feeling intimidated by my scone-munching appearance...

After some time she left, and we enjoyed the rest of this really nice and lazy Saturday morning. Hope you will have a great weekend, too!
